The 4-Year Project under cooperation with ECAP III
The first activity in cooperation with ECAP III:
The 3rd AUN International Conference on Intellectual Property Education (AUNIP):
“Driving IP Management and Technological Licensing towards Knowledge-based and Creative Economy" and IP Workshop on University’s IP Policies during 16-19 November 2010 co-hosted by Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
The most important factor for the success of an intellectual property system in the region is to establish an understanding of the public about the benefit of intellectual property at an early stage. Even though, most ASEAN countries have acceded to the WTO or are considering accession thereto, countries are still facing a number of problems pertaining to intellectual property. Thus there exists the urgent need to develop intellectual property in ASEAN countries; that is to engage in the dissemination of knowledge and understanding of the system and its impact upon trade, industry, economic, social, and cultural development.
It is therefore important to provide for an effective education in IP at relevant levels of education.
The European Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat signed a Financing Agreement for the implementation of the “ASEAN Project on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights” (ECAP III). Component 4 of ECAP III is especially dedicated to ASEAN University Network Intellectual Property Network (AUNIP). AUNIP under collaboration with ECAP III, is attempting to form the IP network in the higher education. The beneficiaries and target groups will be IP educators in universities, tertiary educational institutions and schools, ASEAN government officials concerned with IP policy formulation and enforcement and/or officials participating in to FTA negotiations, government agencies and IP offices, R&D and S&T institutions.RECENT DEVELOPMENT
