Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) celebrated its 50th year Anniversary on the 18th of May 2020. Established in 1970, the university was built in the spirit of nation building. The university started with three faculties and has now grown to 13 faculties and 12 research centres. To date, UKM has produced over 200,000 graduates who are currently actively servicing the public and private sector. Awarded a research university status in 2006, UKM has focused on research excellence and contributed significantly in various fields of research. Currently, UKM ranks 160th in the QS World University Ranking and is 41st in the QS Asia University Ranking.

On the 18th of May, a Golden Jubilee Discourse was organized by the university through Zoom and Facebook Live. The panellists, Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Syed Arabi bin Syed Abdullah Idid (International Islamic University Malaysia), Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak (Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences), and Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Jawiah Dakir (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) all shared the history and success stories of the university and gave proactive suggestions for the future of the university.

UKM Global received over 50 warm wishes from university partners, embassies and international alumni sharing their congratulatory remarks and personal experiences with UKM. A compilation of all these videos will be shared on the following website: http://www.ukm.my/pha/ in June 2020. UKM Global would like to express our gratitude to the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Secretariat, AUN member universities and AUN exchange students who have sent all their warm wishes.

Though we originally planned to invite all of the AUN members to come to UKM to celebrate the 50th year Anniversary, we had to cancel the proposed plan due to the current global pandemic. We will be organizing a series of webinars in the near future and we would love to invite all AUN partners to virtually attend the events.

Thank you so much for all your warm wishes. Towards greater years together.
