AUN Interns offer their solutions to challenges faced by ASEAN higher education

On 25 August 2020, the first group of virtual interns presented their findings to the AUN Secretariat. As members of the AUN Secretariat team, interns work closely with AUN officers and actively provide input at all stages of project implementation. A part of this effort is that every intern that works with the AUN Secretariat completes at least one research project that tests the waters for areas that the secretariat has found to be in need of attention and development in the ASEAN higher education sector.

This time, the projects dove into these areas:

Project title Intern(s) responsible
  • Problems reflected in Higher Education System and Policy of 10 ASEAN countries' universities
  • Cultural Sensitivity Project
Lin Wan Ki Pelo, Chinese University of Hong Kong Chiu Kwan-yu Mike, Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • ASEAN: United Against Climate Change
Chihiro Aita, Macalester College
  • Travel Bubble: The New Normal Situation of Air Travel
  • New World Order Post COVID-19 Pandemic
Fimma Putri Noviandrarini, Universitas Airlangga
  • Student Mobility Activities during and post-pandemic
Ip Anna Tin Wai, Chinese University of Hong Kong

As of today, the work that these interns have done is now fully integrated into the work of the AUN Secretariat—whether it be integrated into our agenda with education problems to tackle or integrated into our work process through understanding the delicacies of international travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The AUN Secretariat maintains its stance that interns working with the secretariat should not only be provided with the opportunity to do work that has true value in the professional world but that they must, for our future and theirs.
