With 2020 coming to an end fast, let us revisit one of the ASEAN University Network’s flagship projects and one of the last in-person student activities before COVID-19 halted all in-person activities.

The AUN ASEAN Experiential Learning Programme (AELP) is an initiative organized by the AUN Student Affairs Network. The AELP is a biannual activity that brings together undergraduates from AUN Member Universities for a 5-day learning programme that aims to offer real “in-the-field” learning and exposure experiences. With the majority of learning experiences today being contained within the classroom, this program seeks to fill the gap by giving youth the opportunity to learn by contributing real work to the community.

Taking place between 30 June – 6 July 2019, the 2nd AELP brought 39 ASEAN youth to the city of Nan, Thailand. Celebrated for being a model city for eco-friendly tourism, youth were tasked with learning what makes Nan so successful. After learning firsthand from locals, they then got together to discuss and create a model of an inclusive and sustainable city.

The next AELP will take place in 2022 and will be co-hosted by the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and the Singapore Management University.
