On behalf of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), the Master of Business Administration program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FEB UGM) welcomed the visit of Kjell Tormod Pettersen, Ambassador of Norway to ASEAN, on 7 March 2022. The purpose of the visit was to meet and interact with the scholarship recipients of the ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management. After the strict travel restrictions due to the pandemic from June 2020 until January 2022 were relaxed, the students were finally able to travel to Yogyakarta by March 2022. During the visit, Ambassador Pettersen delivered a seminar to 23 students who passed the program selection. As part of the program’s inaugural batch, the students were selected from more than 90 applicants, and represent eight ASEAN countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. Also present during the visit were Prof. Stein Kristiansen, Program Coordinator from the University of Agder, Norway, and Prof. Paripurna Sugarda, Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management is an innovative program conducted in collaboration between the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AUN. In particular, the program attracts future ASEAN leaders and equips them with a sustainability mindset and the toolkits necessary to lead the transition of organizations and businesses towards environmental sustainability. Students taking this program are projected to take on critical positions such as Chief Sustainability Officer, sustainability consultants, or other managerial roles in governmental and non-governmental organizations that work closely with sustainability issues. The program seeks to contribute to the complex problem of sustainability in Southeast Asia.

Students selected in this program receive a full scholarship covering tuition fees, living costs, and other study-related allowances. The program builds upon the strong and highly successful AACSB-accredited MBA program of the Faculty of Economics and Business UGM. The program is currently looking for prospective candidates for its second batch, which will commence in January/February 2023.
