AUN Programme Officer;

The ASEAN-QA Forum 2023: Myanmar Chapter was held from 18-19 January 2023 at Yangon University of Foreign Languages (YUFL), Myanmar. In this meeting, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the AUN Executive Director, was invited to give an opening remark.

In his speech, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti pointed out the challenges that could potentially stand in the way of strengthening Quality Assurance in ASEAN universities. These challenges include the size of the higher education sector in ASEAN and the unequal development of education in ASEAN in general. He emphasized that an ‘All Hands on Deck’ approach is needed and that our precious time and resources, both human and financial, could not be wasted in an uncoordinated effort. He observed that there is the will and the drive to catch up with the challenges among policymakers, educators, university administrators, and QA practitioners. In this regard, he thanked the ASEAN-Quality Assurance Association for leading and coordinating such existing efforts.

The ASEAN-QA Forum is organized by the ASEAN-Quality Assurance Association. It serves as an avenue for quality assurance practitioners, higher education professionals, researchers, and stakeholders from across ASEAN and beyond to discuss pressing issues on ASEAN higher education institutions, and share their thoughts, best practices, and strategies for the greater good of ASEAN higher education institutions.

This year, the forum was held under the theme of “Re-Imagining Quality Assurance in ASEAN Higher Education towards Sustainability.” The two-day event featured a speech from a keynote speaker, panel discussions, parallel paper presentation sessions, and an open forum session.

Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti was confident that the forum would be exciting and fruitful with shared and common imagination or re-imagination by all participants.
