Familiar Faces Welcoming Assessments, AUN-QA Overview: The 334th, 335th, and 336th AUN-QA Programme Assessments

AUN-QA has member universities that have been part of the family for many years and counting that actively engage with AUN-QA activities like workshops or with plenty of Programme Assessments from us well under their belt. In this week of AUN-QA PA overview you will find familiar names Mahidol University (MU) for the 334^th PA and Can Tho University (CTU) for the 336^th PA. For the 335^th PA, it is Hue University’s (HU) first ever Programme Assessment with AUN-QA. They have been part of the AUN-QA member universities for many years, participating in various AUN-QA workshops, and we are excited to expand our collaborative activities to programme assessments as well with HU!

334^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Mahidol University (MU)

The 334^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at MU, Thailand, from 27 - 29 June, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:

1. Master of Science Programme in Science and Technology Education (International Programme)
2. Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Medical Technology (International Programme)
3. Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Tropical Medicine (International Programme)
4. Doctor of Philosophy Programme in Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (International Programme)

• MU is under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation
• Mahidol University has been living a long history for over 129 years since the establishment of “Siriraj Hospital” in 1888, then developed to a medical school in the next year. The name was bestowed upon by His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej after His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla. Mahidol University has continued to progress in all aspects to stay relevant and conform to the rapidly changing world and society. The significant role of the university is to produce quality graduates, who are knowledgeable in their chosen fields and mindful of morality, to serve as human capital for the country’s current development. All strategies are aligned with Mahidol University’s aspiration towards a world class university. The university’s current milestone is being ranked as the top university in the region and No.1 in Thailand.
• This was MU’s 9^th Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.

335^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Hue University (HU)

The 335^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held at HU, Viet Nam, from 3 - 6 July, 2023, and the first assessment with AUN-QA! The study programme that was assessed for the first time by AUN-QA was namely:

1. Bachelor of Medical Laboratory

• HU is under the Ministry of Education and Training
• Hue University (HU) was initially established in March 1957. As one out of the three regional universities in the entire country, Hue University is a public multidisciplinary institution of higher education that bears the mission of performing national strategic tasks and regional development; bringing into the traditions of quintessential, high-quality training combined with multidisciplinary scientific research that creates state-of-the-art, effective products of sciences and technology. “Liberation - Quality - Integration - Efficiency” are regarded as the core values of the University. After 64 years of establishment and development, Hue University has 8 member universities and currently provides training of 153 majors of bachelor’s degree, 102 majors of master’s degree and 55 majors of doctoral degree, which has accordingly offered thousands of competent scientists, doctors, teachers, etc. The University specially focuses on closely combining scientific studies and technology, basic research and application to best satisfy the national industrialization and modernization.
• This was HU’s 1^st Programme Assessment with AUN-QA that is also onsite.

336^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Can Tho University (CTU)

The 336^th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held onsite at CTU, Viet Nam, from 4 - 6 July, 2023. Four study programmes were assessed, namely:

1. Bachelor of Agricultural Economics
2. Bachelor in Biotechnology (Advanced Programme)
3. Master in Principles and Methods of Mathematics Education
4. Master in Hydraulic Engineering

• CTU is under the Ministry of Education and Training
• Can Tho University was initially named as Can Tho Institute of Higher Learning at its establishment in 1966. Since 1975 it has been named as Can Tho University (CTU). CTU is the driving force having decisive influence on the development of the Mekong Delta region (MDR) of Viet Nam. CTU is the national key university and known as the center of cultures, sciences and technologies of the MDR; ranked in the top 351-400 universities in Agriculture and Forestry (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021); a member of the ASEAN University Network (AUN); received the JICA President Award in 2019; recognized to comply with the institutional accreditation standards of the Ministry of Education and Training in 2018. CTU currently offers 109 bachelor’s, 48 master’s and 19 doctoral training programmes to a total number of some 47,594 students. The strongest majors belong to Agriculture, Aquaculture, Technology and Environment.
• This was CTU’s 7^th Programme Assessment and their 3^rd onsite Programme Assessment with AUN-QA.
