After a long venture into the history, goals, missions and activities of all 17 AUN Thematic Networks week-by-week, the Introducing the AUN Thematic Network Series has come to a close. Kickstarted early this year, the series took us along in its mission to introduce them to each and every thematic network within the ASEAN University Network (AUN) family, and how it contributes to the mission and development of the AUN as a major higher education network in ASEAN.
As evident throughout the series, the establishment and continuation of each AUN Thematic Network is crucial to the AUN’s mission and activities in specialized areas of higher education. Working closely with the AUN Secretariat, AUN Member Universities, other AUN Thematic Networks and other sectors, each AUN thematic network operates with self-autonomy in its specialized area in higher education. Each also provides the AUN with academic resources, activities, collaborations and opportunities as part of the efforts in tackling new thematic issues in society and higher education, be it in economy, health and sanitation, innovation, etc.
With the drastic global impacts brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic and rapid globalization, the AUN as a university network recognizes the importance of higher education in addressing old and new challenges that have been emerging in different areas of society. Under such circumstances, the AUN Thematic Networks serve as a key in creating impacts and contributing to the development of innovation and solutions to such issues, thus reshaping the linkage and collaboration between universities, higher education organizations and other sectors in the society.
We hope that the journey that we took on the path of introducing AUN Thematic Networks has been worthwhile in your better understanding about the AUN and its extended branches of departments and operation.
