Introducing our Member: Lyceum of the Philippines Davao

By
Ninnart Ratanasukhon
AUN Programme Officer;

From 26-31 March 2023, the AUN Secretariat was honoured by its esteemed members and associate members for a courtesy visit in the beautiful city of Davao, the Philippines. In this series of articles, we are delighted to tell you more about our honourable members and what they are up to.

Our first stop in this series is the associate member of the AUN-QA, Lyceum of the Philippines Davao (LPU Davao)!

Opening its doors in 2019, Lyceum of the Philippines Davao (LPU Davao) is an institute affiliated with the Lyceum of the Philippines University System. Founded by Jose P. Laurel in 1952, LPU System started in Manila before branching off to five locations of Makati, Batangas, Laguna, and Cavite, with LPU Davao as the latest addition and the first one situated outside Luzon.

LPU Davao now offers ten degrees through its four colleges, namely:

  1. College of Health and Sciences
  2. College of Business and Accountancy
  3. College of Arts and Sciences
  4. College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Apart from the four colleges, the university also houses the International Culinary Institute, where students can obtain advanced and professional diplomas in culinary arts. The plan for LPU Davao’s Air Academy is also ongoing, with courses in aeronautical engineering, aircraft maintenance technology, and cabin crew training to be offered once fully launched.

In 2020, a year after opening its doors, LPU Davao had to face the disruption from covid-19 pandemic as face-to-face interaction was restricted and classes must move online. LPU Davao, however, overcame such challenges gracefully with digital preparedness.

LPU-eFLEx (Leveraging Platforms Utilisation for Enhanced Flexible Learning Experience) is LPU Davao’s official learning management system that features both synchronous and asynchronous learning methods for students to utilise during the Academic Year 2020-2021. Students can take real-time online synchronous lectures, watch online lecture recordings, download worksheets, receive coaching through one-on-one teleconferencing, and more. This means the students can smoothly transfer to an online platform and take their courses uninterrupted.

After a year of online learning, LPU Davao once again welcomed the students to its home turf in 2021. Students can now take classes in its ample facilities, which include dedicated science laboratories, hospitality laboratories, cold and hot kitchens with cafe workshops for actual services.

LPU Davao is now looking ahead and aims to be an internationally accredited university dedicated to innovation and excellence in the service of God and country by 2024.
