13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting and 37th AUN-BOT Meeting successfully held in Vientiane, Lao PDR

The 37th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees Meeting and the 13th ASEAN University Network Rectors’ Meeting, hosted by the National University of Laos and co-hosted by AUN Secretariat, were held on 27 - 28 September 2022 in Vientiane, Laos PDR. During the 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting, 11 Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than 50 representatives from 28 AUN Member Universities across 10 ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting to discuss and share their good practices, analyses, initiatives, and recommendations on AUN-related projects, programs, and activities.

AUN-QA’s Official Meetings in Viet Nam Series #1: Ministry of Education and Training

On the morning of 20 July 2022, the official meeting was held between the AUN-QA team led by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the Executive Director of the AUN, and the guest of honour – Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, alongside the representatives from Higher Education Department and Viet Nam Education Management Agency (VQA) under the Ministry.

AUN-QA’s meetings with stakeholders: Exploring current QA prospects in Viet Nam

As the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the Decision on recognising quality assurance activities of the AUN-QA in Vietnam, the AUN-QA has taken the opportunity to organise official on-site meetings with stakeholder organisations and partnered universities in Vietnam during 17 - 22 July 2022. The objective of this visit was to discuss the prospects of QA direction, share recent updates on QA development in the ASEAN region, and discuss further on possible collaboration in Viet Nam.

The 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting at Lao PDR

The 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting was conducted in Vientiane, Lao PDR, hosted by National University of Laos and co-hosted by the AUN Secretariat. In this year’s Meeting, eleven Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than fifty representatives from twenty-eight AUN Member Universities across ten ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting, which was held under the encompassing theme “University Excellence and the Next Frontiers of ASEAN Higher Education: How AUN Member Universities Think, Lead, and Manage”.

The Ethics of Environmental Sustainability in the Era of Climate Crisis

Environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation are crucial for the livelihoods of all citizens of ASEAN countries. Our current and future leaders ought to find the balance between socioeconomic development and the protection of remaining natural resources. The global conversation surrounding our climate laws and regulations now must center on disasters, displacement, and mitigation. The ethics webinar offered a platform for the contemplation of the ethical responsibility of environmental sustainability and a deep reflection on the current systems of production that produces such crises.

Dr. Choltis shared his views on credit transfer systems at the HAQAA2 African Credit Transfer System Re-Launch Workshop

The African Credit Transfer System (ACTS) workshop was launched during the HAQAA2 Advisory Board meeting on 8th June 2022 in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire, Africa. The workshop was successfully held in order to revive the discussion on ACTS which entails harmonization of curricula and promotion of academic mobility in Africa. The ASEAN University Network (AUN) Executive Director, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti shared his remarks upon the credit transfer systems in Southeast Asia among the discussion of challenges and solutions to develop the African harmonization system.

AUN-QA Courtesy Visit to Indonesia: A milestone in the return of on-site activities

As travel restrictions loosen around the world, AUN-QA has taken the opportunity to organize an onsite courtesy visit to partnered universities in Indonesia: UGM, UBAYA, and UMM during May 29 to June 3, 2022. The goal of the visit is to discuss future plans in the assessment process and inform partnered universities about upcoming AUN events, activities, and projects. This event marks a milestone in the return of onsite events in the future.

ASEAN University Network Executive Director’s Remarks at the Asia Universities Summit 2022

The Asia Universities Summit, 2022, was held at Fujita Health University, Japan, by Times Higher Education from 31 May to 2 June, with the theme “Facing the future, creating academic talent.” Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Executive Director, was a keynote speaker at the summit, highlighting issues related to university leadership, governance and quality standardization.
