On September 21-22, 2023, representatives from AUN/SEED-Net visited the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The team's primary mission was to participate in the 14th AUN/SEED-Net Regional Conference on Geological and Geo-resources Engineering (RCGeoE) and the 2nd Conference on Earth Resources and Geo-environment Technology 2023 (EraGET 2023), hosted by ITC with sponsorship from AUN/SEED-Net, along with private companies. Equally crucial objectives included engaging with AUN/SEED-Net alumni working at ITC and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI). Key highlights from these events are summarized below:

14th Regional Conference on Geological and Geo-resource Engineering:

  • Distinguished representatives from ITC, JICA Cambodia Office, and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport delivered impactful opening remarks, marking the beginning of the two-day conference. The event showcased an impressive array of academic contributions, with approximately 115 papers presented. Additionally, the program also featured 12 keynote presentations by speakers from diverse sectors and countries, including two presentations from Kyushu University and one presentation from the University of Tokyo. It is undeniable that the success of this conference owes much to the strong network of researchers at ITC and Japanese universities, forged through previous collaborations that has been nurtured within the AUN/SEED-Net community.

Meetings with AUN/SEED-Net Alumni at ITC and MISTI:

  • These meetings drew many active members of the alumni group to join discussions with the AUN/SEED-Net team. The focus was on fostering effective networking and sustainable collaboration among alumni in diverse organizations and sectors within Cambodia.

The success witnessed at the 14th RCGeoE at ITC, coupled with fruitful interactions with alumni, serves as a testament to the promising future of the AUN/SEED-Net network in Cambodia and across the ASEAN and Japan region.
