The ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum Made a Grand Return From the Pandemic Hiatus

The wait is finally over! After the COVID Pandemic shook the world, the ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum has been on hiatus for 3 years. But no more, the 18th ASEAN and 8th ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum just recently made a grand return on 14 - 19 May, 2023 in Jakarta, Universitas Indonesia where 132 delegates from 9 ASEAN+3 countries were able to partake in this spectacular cultural event!

The Astounding Success of The First CALOHEA National Meeting at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

The CALOHEA Project has taken a major leap towards its goal of enhancing mobility and internationalization in Universities in Asia with the first National Meeting on 2 -3 March, 2023, at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia. This two-day event of knowledge sharing, open discussion, and a workshop is another step towards bringing Higher Education in SEA into a common space and enhancing mobility between SEA countries and even to other regions by implementing the 3 Core Recognition Mechanisms (RM3) into SEA Universities.

Special AUN-QA Feature: The AUN Executive Director Announces Line-up for 2023 at the 311th AUN-QA PA at Ton Duc Thang University

AUN Secretariat Executive Director, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, announced key projects for AUN at the 311th AUN-QA Programme Assessment at Ton Duc Thang University. 2023 will be an exciting year for AUN and ASEAN Higher Education as the wheels once again start turning in full motion after the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and shifting up another gear with plenty of high impact projects lined up throughout the year.

13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting and 37th AUN-BOT Meeting successfully held in Vientiane, Lao PDR

The 37th ASEAN University Network Board of Trustees Meeting and the 13th ASEAN University Network Rectors’ Meeting, hosted by the National University of Laos and co-hosted by AUN Secretariat, were held on 27 - 28 September 2022 in Vientiane, Laos PDR. During the 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting, 11 Presidents, Rectors, Vice Chancellors, and more than 50 representatives from 28 AUN Member Universities across 10 ASEAN Countries participated in the Meeting to discuss and share their good practices, analyses, initiatives, and recommendations on AUN-related projects, programs, and activities.

AUN-QA’s Official Meetings in Viet Nam Series #1: Ministry of Education and Training

On the morning of 20 July 2022, the official meeting was held between the AUN-QA team led by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, the Executive Director of the AUN, and the guest of honour – Assoc. Prof. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training, alongside the representatives from Higher Education Department and Viet Nam Education Management Agency (VQA) under the Ministry.

AUN-QA’s meetings with stakeholders: Exploring current QA prospects in Viet Nam

As the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued the Decision on recognising quality assurance activities of the AUN-QA in Vietnam, the AUN-QA has taken the opportunity to organise official on-site meetings with stakeholder organisations and partnered universities in Vietnam during 17 - 22 July 2022. The objective of this visit was to discuss the prospects of QA direction, share recent updates on QA development in the ASEAN region, and discuss further on possible collaboration in Viet Nam.

13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting: Hideki Shimazu Highlights AUN/SEED-Net’s Successful Collaborative Education Program

Hideki Shimazu, Project Coordinator of AUN/SEED-Net, presented highlights and achievements of AUN/SEED-Net at the 13th AUN Rectors’ Meeting in September 2022. In relation to the sub-agenda, “Driving World-Class Study Programme and Student Mobility”, he explained the features and practices from the Collaborative Education Program to show how it enhanced the engineering field within Japan and ASEAN countries.

The Signing Ceremony of Cooperative Framework of AUN/SEED-Net Transitional Period

The 27th AUN/SEED-Net Steering Committee Meeting was conducted on 16 December, 2022 and was a momentous occasion that marks the 20th year since the establishment of the AUN/SEED-Net, a thematic network of AUN. The Signing Ceremony of Cooperative Framework in the meeting will ensure the continuation of AUN/SEED-Net into its transitional period, where it will be smoothly transferred to the AUN Secretariat and continue to strengthen and utilize the networks among universities of ASEAN countries and Japan through the transitional period starting in 2023.

AUN Recap: The 2nd Focus Group Meeting of AUN/SEED-Net Transitional Plan

The 2nd Focus Group Meeting of AUN/SEED-Net Transitional Plan took place last month on 18 August. The meeting was to inform the concrete transitional plan after reaching a consensus among concerned parties. In the on-going process of Phase 4 of the AUN/SEED-Net project, there are 7 active programs and achievements, all of which respond to the objectives of this 5 year period. The objective of the 2nd Focus Group Meeting was to collect opinions from AUN Member Universities regarding the programs that will be implemented during years of the transitional period throughout 2023 to 2026.

Introducing ASEAN Engineering Journal (AEJ) by JICA Project for AUN/SEED-Net

As a part of AUN/SEED-Net, ASEAN Engineering Journal (AEJ) serves as an official publication to enhance engineering education within the region and plays a crucial role in the success of the network. Since 2011, the journal has gradually developed its maturity and reputation through a holistic and integrated approach. It marked a milestone for being officially included in the Scopus database in 2019. At the moment, AEJ is transferred to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) under its well-known and professional journal management. The AUN/SEED-Net Secretariat will continue working with the UTM team to ensure the continuity and reliability of the journal and the greater participation of member institutions throughout this seamless transfer period.

SPRAC: Special Program for Research against COVID-19

As COVID-19 swept across the globe in the past few years, JICA Project for AUN/SEED-Net strongly believes that scientific research is the key not only to the alleviation of the current impact, but also to the more effective and accessible diagnosis and treatment process in the future. In response to this current dreadful pandemic threat, the “Special Program for Research against COVID-19 (SPRAC)” was created. The program offered a maximum of $50,000 grant for researchers from Member Institutions to conduct an engineering-based research on any COVID-19-related topics.
