Noppanun Sookping
AUN Programme Officer;

As the seasonal holidays have concluded in merriment and rejuvenation, the team at the AUN Secretariat is back in full force, working towards our plan to make 2024 an eventful year for the development of ASEAN higher education. In the dimension of youth activities, AUN is taking particular emphasis on continuing our platforms, projects and activities, as well as building new ones, for ASEAN young talents and students under the increasingly challenging socioeconomic and geopolitical landscape of the world.

In order to deliver such a goal, the AUN Secretariat, in active collaboration with the network’s premier Member Universities and partners, aims to bring back several of the AUN Flagship Youth Activities after a long hiatus due to the lasting effects of COVID-19 pandemic, along with a new “AUN Summer Camp'' to spearhead interregional preparation of ASEAN-rooted talents for an ever-shifting global landscape of the future. Together with continuous collaborations with our partners from Japan, the year 2024 is taking shape as a promising year of opportunities and platforms for the region’s young talents.

The Grand Return of AUN Flagship Youth Activities

Following a long hiatus since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, several AUN Flagship Youth Activities make their appearance again in 2024 with the aim of reestablishing themselves as the region’s top learning and youth engagement platform in the ASEAN region. Each of these initiatives caters to different groups of our regional youth community and, in this regard, provides different sorts of capacity building and objectives.

The AUN Youth activities making their returns this year include:

1. ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum (AYCF) 2024

Date and Location: 23 - 28 June 2024 in Brunei Darussalam

The ASEAN and ASEAN+3 Youth Cultural Forum is an annual event that brings together youth from leading universities in the ASEAN region, China, Japan, and Korea to share their distinct cultures and values with one another. The Forum comprises cultural workshops, a cultural trip, as well as a space to perform unique traditional cultural performances.

2. ASEAN Student Leader Forum (ASLF)

4. *New Initiative* AUN Summer Camp

Date and Location: July 2024 (Dates TBC)

AUN Summer Camp is a brand-new Concurrent Student Mobility Programmes organised by AUN Member Universities for over 2,000* students from 10 ASEAN Countries.

With the main objective of preparing the region’s students with more advanced competences and knowledge essential for the leading global talents rooted in the ASEAN region, the AUN Summer Camp brings together the strengths and expertise of leading AUN Member Universities in organising two-week, concurrent and cross-border exchange programmes and stimulating interregional academic mobility of a large group of university students from 10 ASEAN countries.

Through knowledge building and capacity building sessions run by ASEAN’s top universities and involving experts from the business and industry sector, participating students of the AUN Summer Camp are expected to graduate from this short-term programme with subject-specific knowledge and experience that can help them thrive in an ever-challenging global socioeconomic landscape.

This brand new initiative under AUN will also serve as a great platform for students, academics as well as professionals from industries and businesses to connect and contribute to each other’s personal and professional growth - one which could last for a lifetime.

*Student capacity for each programme varies depending on the arrangement and conditions stipulated by each host university.

External Collaborations

In addition to the flagship youth activities organised by AUN Member Universities, the university network continues its strong collaboration in this area with external partners and stakeholders from outside the ASEAN region, with emphasis on the continuation of partnership with universities and organisations from China and Japan.
