On Thursday 11th June 2020, the AUN-QA Council Members, after careful consideration, approved the Guide to AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level, Version 4.0. The development of the guide began in March 2019 by the revision team led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan, a member of the AUN-QA Technical Team, under the principle of continuous improvement.

The aim of developing the guide is to improve the way to approach the AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level as well as to align it with current higher education trends. The Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle is heavily practiced in the AUN-QA Assessments process therefore the same cycle is used to develop the guide. The Editor-in-Chief for this project is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan from National University of Singapore, and the revision committee includes Prof. Ir. Shahrir Abdullah, UKM, Prof. Dr. Satria Bijaksana, ITB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kalmowan Lueprasert, KMUTNB, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen, HCMUTE, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arnel Onesimo, DLSU, Dr. Wyona Patalinghug, DLSU, and Assoc. Prof. Chavalit Wongse-ek, MU. The guide would not have been possible without their hard work!

As part of their process, the revision committee took suggestions from multiple stakeholders including assessors, administrator and faculty members from programmes that have been assessed by the AUN-QA by sending out a large-scale survey in order to create a truly comprehensive guide. Outcome-based education, innovation and the need to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set in students are some of the many new features in the new Guide Version 4.0.

“Overall there is greater emphasis on the need to obtain feedback and to make improvement for embarking on the next cycle of planning and carrying out educational quality assurance activities.” said the Editor-in-Chief. He continued by explaining the differences between the previous and current version of the guide “There were 11 criteria and 62 requirements; there are now 8 criteria and 53 requirements.”

Overall, this new guide is more user-friendly as it has been simplified. It also focuses more on what contributes to the outcomes of the graduates. This guide is the future of the AUN-QA Assessment at Programme Level and we can’t wait to get our hands on them once they’re released!
