It is back! The ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance International Conference is returning after a hiatus since 2019 due to the recent pandemic. Hosted by AUN-QA, this year will take place in Bangkok, Thailand on 6 - 7 September 2023. Here, renowned QA experts and participants across the world will gather to showcase the best practices and share valuable experiences regarding quality assurance. As we head closer towards the designated date of the conference, the AUN-QA team is eager to share some of the topics our speakers will be discussing!

For the first day, we have Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan, AUN-QA Technical Expert, and Chief of Quality Officer to the AUN-QA, National University of Singapore, with the topic of “How then, will universities stand?”, which is quite a loaded question for sure. This session will delve into the key features, framework, and assessment criteria of the updated AUN-QA Institutional Assessment Version 3.0 Guidebook, offering participants a deeper understanding of its purpose and significance in evaluating institutional quality.

Next we have Dr. Susanna Karakhanyan, Immediate Past President, The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) and Dr. Robyn Philips, Director of XBorder Project, Australia. For their topic, it will be “How not to do QA: Best Practices Turn Sour”, moderated by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, PhD, Executive Director of ASEAN University Network. This open-ended session has the aim to explore the limitations and challenges of current quality assurance models and their applicability in diverse contexts. Our speakers will critically examine the shortcomings of QA practices and share insights on how to avoid pitfalls to ensure effective QA implementation.

Now looking to the second day, we will have Ms. Peetra Lechte, Communications Manager, NEAS Australia and Mr. Johnson Ong Chee Bin, Founder and Principal Consultant, Education Quality International with the topic of “Cultivating QA Human Resources and Institutional Capacities in Universities: Challenges and Good Practices”, moderated by Dr. Michael Fey, Director and Head of Education Services, AFG Venture Group, ASEAN Focus Group. In this session, the focus will be on sharing recent experiences of capacity building programs in QA conducted in Southeast Asia by the AUN Secretariat, AUN Member and Associate Member Universities, and AUN partner organizations.
