Introduction to AUN Summer Camp 2024 Series #9: LIFE Programme by Universiti Sains Malaysia

AUN Programme Officer;

2024 has proven to be a significant year for ASEAN University Network in promoting youth empowerment and cross-border exchange. Through the new AUN Summer Camp Programme, AUN Core Member Universities joined forces in organising and coordinating multiple short-term summer programmes for student participants from all the 10 ASEAN countries.

“The LIFE Programme” is the last AUN Summer Camp site in 2024, set to be held on 2-15 September by Universiti Sains Malaysia. ‘LIFE’ stands for LIVING, INCLUSIVE, FULFILLING, EXPERIENCE. During the programme, students will participate in various sessions, including seminars, leadership and building activities, sharing sessions, games, and reflections. This also provides them with a great opportunity to explore the verdant nature in Malaysia, such as Pantai Kerachut and Penang Island.

Available topics in this two-week summer programme include:

  • Cents of Life (Digital Financial Literacy) – teaching students how to prepare financially for difficult times and how to manage money well.
  • Discovering Living Labs (Climate Change Resilience) – teaching students to appreciate and preserve nature.
  • Innovative Thinking: Skill of the Future (Computational and Design Thinking) – teaching students on how to solve problems critically and creatively.
  • YOUnique: From Genes to Gen (Genomics and Gerontology) – learning on how we can age gracefully.
  • Grit in You (Grit and Psychology) – learning that nothing is impossible.
  • Living Sustainably (Sustainable Development Goals) – learning that they can always turn waste into wealth.
  • In Search of HEBAT Student (Hebat Development Centre)

This programme offers the students a chance to go on an experiential journey to co-create new lifelong experiences that could lead to a more productive life in whatever future they aim to pursue.

This wraps up our news series on AUN Summer Camp 2024. Thanks to the contributions, knowledge and expertise of AUN Core Member Universities, AUN Summer Camp in its first year managed to achieve much in terms of promoting student academic exchange mobility and experiential learning of future-ready skills for talents from all the 10 ASEAN countries. All the 9 programmes introduced and conducted this year – each distinctive in terms of themes, locations and programme designs – served as a testament to the excellence and readiness of the ASEAN region’s universities in empowering youth with capacity building and networking opportunities. Ultimately, it is hoped that participating students of this year’s programme manage to create and savour invaluable friendships and experiences which would last for a lifetime.
